about

I’m not really sure what to say about this record. It wasn’t something I set out to make with any clear vision.

A few years ago, I realised that in between the pop travelogues and irreverent indie, I had a number of songs from the past twelve or so years that were softer in tone, gentle and direct, if a little melancholy. Perhaps they were written alone during the early hours in a spartan, lamp lit bedroom. Listening to them years later, and now far enough away from the person who wrote those words, they sound vulnerable, which I hope means there is some truth in there.

More recently, I added a few bits and bobs to give them a fuller production but left some of the rustic elements from those early recordings. The mixing is lazy, the singing pitchy, and after reaching the end of the process, I’ve lost all perspective. In any case, here it is: Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down (best listened to alone during the early hours in a spartan, lamp lit bedroom).
